Google Changed the Algorithm Again. Nobody Panic. (Everybody Panic.)

Somewhere right now, a Slack channel is melting down because a client's rankings moved four spots. Someone is drafting an "URGENT: Algorithm Update" email. Someone else is already selling a $497 course on "surviving" it.

Here's the part nobody puts in the newsletter: Google changes something almost every single day. Most of it is invisible. The updates that make headlines are usually just the moment a slow drift finally crosses a threshold someone noticed.

The real insight: if a ranking swings hard on one update, it was never stable, it was borrowed, sitting on thin content, weak links, or a keyword match with no real relevance behind it. Pages built on genuinely useful content barely notice when the algorithm "changes." They were never leaning on the thing that just got fixed.

If a ranking swings hard on one update, it was never stable.

Takeaway: stop reacting to individual updates and start asking whether your rankings would survive losing any single ranking factor. If the answer is no, that's the real problem, the update just found it first.

This week: take the page that dropped the most and ask honestly, was it ever earning that position, or just occupying it?
